Corelle dinnerware is made up of laminated glass (laminating makes the finished product
stronger, e.g. Wood, Paper, etc.) By this we mean it is a sandwich kind of
product. It consists of an inner body glass of 2.4mm thickness surrounded by an outer skin of clear glass of 0.15mmthickness on both
sides. Both type of glass have different chemicals & physical properties.
After heating & forming into shapes, as the
product cools, the two kinds of glass contract at
different rates. The inner body glass contract faster
& more than the outer skin glass. That causes the
body glass to pull in the outer glass tightly
towards itself. The resulting compression strengthens
the glass, giving the product its toughness.

Drop
Test :
This is conducted in a specialized standardized room for each batch.
A Corelle dinnerware is dropped from a series of height up to 3
meters high onto a variety of hard floors like Wood etc. to check
for its break resistant properties.

Impact
Test :
Metal balls of varying weights are released at varying speeds to hit
a stationery Corelle dinnerware. This is done in a standardized way
for each batch to check at what impact levels it can withstand
cracking.
